Organizers In All 50 States, Tens of Thousands Expected to Rally in DC
Event Speakers to Include Children and Families,
Faith-Based Leaders and Artists Including John Legend,
America Ferrera, and Lin-Manuel Miranda
Attendees Encouraged to Wear White for Unity
Washington,
DC—Since the “Families Belong Together” coalition first announced the June 30 national
day of action to protest Trump’s inhumane immigration policy and to demand the end of family separation and detention, the call to action has seen an immense response nationwide from Americans of all backgrounds.
Hundreds of thousands
of people have signed up to attend a large rally and march in Washington D.C. on Saturday and over 750 events across all 50 states. Event stages will feature the voices and stories of children and families as well as human rights activists, faith-based leaders,
and artists from film, television, music, and theater, including headliners such as John Legend, America Ferrera, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and 12-year old Leah.
The massive outpouring
of support for reunifying separated immigrant families, stopping family detention and putting a permanent end to the Trump administration policies that caused this humanitarian crisis has spread across social media as well with celebrities, well-known activists,
and political leaders using their voices and platforms to urge people to turn out this weekend.
The momentum has only
accelerated since the State Department on Thursday came out with its annual report on human trafficking, prepared long before Trump’s policies separated over 2,500 immigrant children from their parents in a matter of weeks, which categorically condemned institutionalizing
children, even in government facilities, for causing long term harmful effects.
Event organizers are
encouraging attendees to wear white to show unity and to continue to share their support of #FamiliesBelongTogether both on the June 30 national day of action and beyond.
